Not about the last word here because it didn't need to go anywhere to begin with, I'm happy you toned it down there, I'm not here for wars and typing papers about anything really. You just had to get a reply for saying anything remotely like knowing anything about me. well if we are going to be dealing with any aspect of Survivors of Orr or From Rin for that matter we will be dealing with characters that have knowledge of the arcane arts academy. that up until that time has been all but demolished from tyria by the searing.
Remember Orr had an extensive Catacombs, and it would be expected that it also had an Arcane Arts academy in its Capital City Rin as Ascalon did.
So Summoners seems logical.
And if it goes another direction that is rumored with is the corsair pirate theme, then the Pole Arm / Trident wilder or Pirate class... So there are a ton of possibilities obviously...
I think we all agree that the next chapter will likely have some of the big pluses from Nightfall, and prob a few things from factions that have been significantly reworked. Like the entire Alliance concept, which seems to be all but abandoned in the Nightfall release (Standalone)
Also anet definitely should make a bonus shrine level available via the other shrines at last. We have 6 gods to choose from, and only 3 take you anywhere. the 3rd being a one time use function per character (DoA). I'm just guessing, but Since we already had 2 with Chapter 1, they decided to skip on that chapter. but they did add one for nightfall, But also made a new god... lol But that leaves 3 left right? So Another trilogy, 1 per chapter would be nice.
* Melandru: Goddess of nature and earth (Mystical Forest realm, several Evolved pets)
* Lyssa: Twin goddess of beauty and illusion. (No Idea... but Definitely Mesmers Galore)
* Dwayna: Goddess of life and air (Perfect for a Floating Castle or Air Realm something like that)

Problem is...a lot of these sound too familiar...
- ward-based = Earth Ele
- debuffer = so...a mesmer or necro with enchantment strippers? Sounds a bit limited. Also Dervishes seem MORE than adept at removing enchants. Perhaps you were thinking of removing the effects of shouts or chants? Could just stop them in the first place with Vocal Minority. SOunds like Necros have this one covered.
- signet based = Mesmer
- form based = ok I'll give you that one. Dervishes aren't really "form based"..
- offensive summonings = Rit and Necro anyone?
- quarter-staff = a baseball player? Or maybe a hammer warrior who can wield a small hammer and a shield..
- 2 handed sword = I guess it's a weapon we've not seen but it'd be too close to warrior to make it better or unique in any way
- dual wielding swords, axes, ect. = W/A - sounds a bit dull
- dagger thrower = Don't sins already have Dagger throwing skills?
Didn't mean to pick on you harshly....I just used your post to summarize a lot of what everyone's been saying. It's just very difficult to think of really unique profession ideas any more. Shapeshifter gets mentioned a lot but I personally don't like the sound of it much, although I have to say, the Dervish Forms have been nicely done.
IF they feel the need to bring out a new profession PLEASE let's have a new caster.

I posted 2 profession ideas a while back.
1st was stance based and recieved +energy regen, while in a stance, as the innate bonus for their primary attribute. Most of their stances had -energy regen and changed how they attack with their profession specific weapon.
2nd was a juggernaut of a profession that could do very powerful melee attacks, but had long cast times for their deadly moves and the moves had strict situational requirements such as the target must be weakened+knocked down. That classes primary innate gave +% to partial interrupt/knockdown immunity.
That post is long gone though.

Yes sins do have dagger throwing skills. Dual Weilding Chars are basically gonna just be assassins. 2 Handed swords Axes, well we dont need them u can already use swords etc it would add nothing new. A Quarter staff type would play vurtually the same as a Dervish's Sycthe, that adds nothing new. Dervishes arnt fully Form based but with that game mechanic now prefected im sure Anet would add similar skills to older classes in the next campaign. and yes all teh others we already have.
If Anet are gonna add new classes they need to be something Different to what we already have much like they did when they added an AoE melee char and a Team buffer. (ie Dervish and Paragon)

Orr never had an academy of Arts, ascalon was unique in having them. It says in the lore that some rich people from Kryta and Orr would sent there children to he ascalon academys (since obviously the other kingdoms didnt have as high prestige academys)
Pirates have already been in 2 campaigns so far, the Crimson skulls etc. in Cantha, the ones at the start of Istan in Elona. They could make them play a bigger role but the storyline would be somewhat lacking, all pirates really want is money, treasure and teh freedom to do what they want, they dont care about much else. so theres not motive for them to do anything but plunder ships and treasure.

I'm not hoping for any new professions.
Still, if Anet introduces two more professions, it should be the Bard and Jester =)

I know everyone says that now.. but I still don't see people jumping for joy when they announce "No new professions!"
And again just because you people hope for no new professions, don't mean the game will be better by defult... it just means there would be any new professions..

I would love that, too. Just add one attribute for each core class.
Warrior - Mace Mastery or Dual Blades Mastery
Monk - Staff Mastery
Ranger - Crossbow or Rifle
Mesmer - Fencing or Chaos Magic
Necro - Conjuring or Rituals
Ele - Ether Magic

Or they could add that in addition to the new professions. The only problem I see with the new attribute idea is that the skills would mostlikely only be in the newest chapter which would *really* get people complaining... and people without that chapter would have a usesless attribute...
Though a warrior with a great sword or an ele with the 5th element (life/heart/w/e) would be cool then an ele really could heal and end the need for a monk... it's a good idea but we'll see I guess.

Here's a wierd spin on implementing new attribute lines for old classes.
What if there were some secondary-only classes, with a smaller set of skills and only 1 or 2 attributes. There might be a "crossbow-user" class with highly-costed skills so it would mostly be the ranger's purview with expertise. Or a "dual axe-wielder" class with minimal self defense, so that warriors with their huge AL are most likely to use it. These skills would either be balanced with the idea in mind that there are no runes for them, or else there could be universal runes that any class could wear. (It's essential that there are no "passive effects" like the primary attributes in the sub-classes then, to prevent people exploiting 3 classes at once!)
This gets the basic idea of new attributes across, without ticking off non-expansion buyers or continually expanding the attribute lines till they fall off the screen, and it helps cut down on the power creep of too many skill combinations, without Anet needing to go through the trouble of complete new professions or people having to roll new characters to play them.

I'll one up this idea - what if you make the core characters released in example Chapter Four have these new attribute while removing one?
Old Warrior created in Prop-Fact-Night retains Hammer Mastery, but can not earn Mace Mastery.
New Warrior creatin in Ch4 has Mace Mastery but looses Hammer Mastery.
So forth and so on - and I think rifles are a ridiculous idea for this world. Rangers are Rangers, keep them to Bow and Long Ranged related weapons, but not that sort of Long Ranged weapons.

I hope for no new professions, that would make 12 professions and 98% of people who only want 5 of those professions for groups...

the 5 core professions are more then enough to handle anything, but i see no reason to remove the option of other classes.
i hope for new professions, if you don't wanna use 'em don't, if you're worried about 'em screwing up your group don't invite 'em - its what we do to assassins
Anet will include new professions, but on the off chance they listen to one of you nay-sayers, don't ruin it for everyone else who likes to have fun and try new things ;p
slightly off topic, does it bother anyone that Balthazar the God of Battle has a 2handed great sword yet no class in the game can even wield one?

My lil IMO...
If they added new proffesions... it really seems that they would add a berserker type meele class... with dual wielding, heavy weapons efficiency (you get some +attackspeed% for each rank), main attribute would be something like +dmg% per rank...lowered defense (60 or less).
If it was to be a range support-like thing i would say... hmmm... dwarven steamwork doesnt really seem to good an idea to me (at least in this world).. so i have no idea :P.... unless the shapeshifter thingy... could be nice...
Caster... summoner ftw imo... (or conjurer... summons not requiring corpses)... it could be like... every summon gives you some energy and hp degen (like... blood summons, mind summons... sth like that)... so it would basically be like beast mastery, just that allowing you to have more than 1 creature at a time and the creatures could be caster classes and stuff....
main attribute of this class could be either some summon support or a ... wtvr it is called.. having a familiar (customisable with lets say... 4 skills, proffesion and behaviour [and lets not forget appearance :P]).
another possibility could be a... vampire or something... tho it would resemble a necro too much...
IMO it would be a lot more fun to let us get 3 secondary proffesions at once :P... or.. a new race of...mmmm.... cant come up with a name... they would basically be the same as humans, but they would have 50 fingers (as we know the reason for having 8 skills in the bar are fingers :P).... and yes, i do realise it would throw gw out of balance and make it unplayable without a certain immortal superstrong build :P
